Spain's daily coronavirus infections climb to 6,667 according to the Ministry of Health

It is the highest figure for a 24-hour period since 1 September

The coronavirus pandemic data is getting worse and faster in Spain. On Wednesday, 17 November, the country’s cumulative incidence rate was 96.12 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, eight more than on Tuesday. But there was also a large increase in the number of daily infections reported.

While in the previous days an average was registered below 4,000, the Ministry of Health reported 6,667 new infections in the previous 24 hour period, the highest daily figure since 1 September, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus infections to 5,067,712 since the start of the pandemic, according to the official statistics from the department.

Hospital pressure up

Mortality remains at levels similar to those of the last few days, with 30 deaths from Covid-19. The total number of deaths from coronavirus in Spain, with a positive test, has now reached 87,775.

Hospital occupancy by Covid patients is also growing and these patients occupy 1.82 per cent of the total number of beds (1.75 per cent on Tuesday) and 4.90 per cent of intensive care unit beds (4.68 per cent the day before).
