The police, who have recovered several items of jewellery stolen from the victim's flat, had been tracking the suspects for three days

The National Police have arrested two boys, ages 16 and 17, for the murder of an 83-year-old woman in her flat in Burgos ... on Tuesday.
According to the autopsy report, the victim died of respiratory failure after being gagged and restrained while a burglary was taking place at her home, which prevented her from accessing the oxygen equipment she needed in her daily life.
The incident happened between 3.30pm and 6.30pm on 13 October. The police arrested the suspects on Friday evening and brought them before the duty public prosecutor on Saturday.
The prosecution must now decide whether to place them in a juvenile detention centre as a precautionary measure.
During the investigation, the police also managed to recover several of the gold jewellery items stolen from inside the victim's home.
They treated the woman's death as a homicide and the burglary as the main line of inquiry. The visual inspection inside the property supported this: there was obvious disorder, suggesting that the perpetrator or perpetrators had searched for something of value.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator(s) focused their search on rooms where money or jewellery are usually kept. The body showed no other signs of violence.
Statements from witnesses also made it possible to pinpoint the time of the events with great precision. According to them, the burglary and the woman's death took place in the course of that same afternoon.
The police analysed CCTV footage, which enabled them to track the suspects down after three days of surveillance. They are currently waiting for the results of further forensic tests, which will prove decisive.
The investigation remains open and the police have not ruled out further arrests.
