A climber has died this Friday morning, 12 November, after falling from a height of around 30-metres while scaling the 100-metre high via ferrata in Ronda’s El Tajo gorge.

The incident was reported to the 112 Andalucía emergency service coordination centre at around 11am, when witnesses said the woman had fallen while climbing the town’s via ferrata, which consists of metal rungs, ladders and a permanently fixed safety wire.

Firefighters, paramedics and police officers were quickly on the scene, but after initially resuscitating the woman, she was pronounced dead an hour or so later.

Sources have confirmed to SUR that the climber was a 61-year-old German woman.
