Driver dies after rock falls on car in Benaoján, and two passengers are injured
The accident took place in the Ronda village shortly after four o’clock in the afternoon and the injured have been taken to hospital
A middle-aged driver has died and two other people have been injured this Monday afternoon when a large rock struck their car in Benaoján, ... a village in the Serranía de Ronda. The accident occurred at kilometre 0 of the MA-8400, the road linking the village centre with the station.
The accident occurred shortly after 4pm and emergency services from the Guardia Civil traffic unit at the Ronda station, the Malaga Provincial Fire Service (CPB) and 061 service paramedics were dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, the emergency services could only confirm the death of the driver, as the stone is believed to have struck the windscreen on his side and went through the glass, according to information obtained by this newspaper.
At least two other occupants of the car had to be treated by medical teams after sustaining injuries and have been taken to hospital. At present, the severity of their injuries is unknown.
The incident has required traffic control measures on the road while maintenance crews and rescue teams secure the area, remove the rock and recover the driver’s body from the vehicle. The police have already launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the accident.
