Police hunt thief who stole a car with a six-year-old child inside

Guardia Civil officers are still searching for the suspect after the incident in Almargen on Monday evening

Police are hunting a suspected car thief after he drove off in the vehicle with a six-year-old boy inside it.

The incident happened at around 7pm on Monday, 8 November, while the family from Cañete la Real, were visiting the Malaga province town of Almargen.

The exact circumstances are not yet clear, but the alleged thief made off in the vehicle with the young child inside it.

After noticing the child, the driver stopped at a fuel station that is about five minutes from the town centre, where he left the young boy, before making off again in the stolen vehicle.

SUR sources have confirmed that the suspect has not yet been located and an investigation is continuing.

The child is reported to be unharmed.

It is not the first case of its kind in the province of Malaga: in 2020, three men stole a car in Puerto de la Torre with two babies inside. When they became aware, the criminals abandoned the vehicle a couple of kilometres from the area where it was stolen.
