Two suspected thieves arrested after police pursuit from Mijas to Marbella

The pair, wanted in connection with thefts from several properties on the Costa del Sol, ended up crashing in the San Pedro Alcántara area where they set their getaway vehicle on fire

Police on the Costa del Sol have arrested two men, whom they had been searching for several days in connection with several thefts, after a car chase along the A-7 from Mijas to Marbella.

The suspects were wanted in connection with a spate of break-ins in Mijas, Fuengirola and Marbella and all had one thing in common – the use of a white Seat Ibiza getaway car.

A Local Police patrol in Mijas, in an unmarked vehicle, finally located the car in the early hours of Tuesday, 23 November, and signalled the driver to stop. Instead, he accelerated and took off at full speed along the A-7 heading in towards Marbella, and a spectacular chase followed, involving more police vehicles.

Lost control

Eventually, the pursuit reached the Avenida Oriental de San Pedro Alcántara, where the Seat driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed. Before trying to flee the scene, sources said the suspects set fire to the vehicle in an attempt to try to destroy any evidence. However, the pair didn’t get far and the Mijas crew and other patrols arrested them.

A few hours later the two men appeared before a duty court and, after taking statements from the pair, they were provisionally released while being investigated for the alleged thefts, road safety and falsification of documents, among other offences.
