In recognition of his successful career as a writer and for being an ambassador of his town, Mijas town hall has announced it will honour Javier Castillo with the title of Hijo Predilecto (favourite son), the highest distinction of the municipality. The institutional motion signed by the town’s mayor, Josele González, was registered on Thursday for approval in the plenary session to be held next week.

Born in 1987, Castillo has become one of the most popular Spanish authors of recent times, marketing his works, which have been translated into ten languages, in more than 63 countries.

His first story, inspired by the work of Agatha Christie, served as a starting point for a long and promising career. The author has published six books, one of which, selling more than 1,700,000 copies, was The Snow Girl, a story that Netflix adapted to a mini-series, and which has become a favourite on the streaming platform.

González, who explained that it was the author’s grandmother who suggested the idea, said, “He deserves to be a prophet of his land.”

“Javier Castillo has become our best ambassador, a resident who has transcended borders and who has tasted the sweet smell of success thanks to his talent in the world of literature. We cannot be prouder to see how he is already a literary reference in our country,” the mayor added.
