Marbella activates lifeguard service on beaches for the 2026 season
The council is extending the opening hours and coverage of a unit that will have more than 50 staff in the summer
Marbella town hall has activated the lifeguard service on the coastline of the municipality to coincide with Holy Week.
The service will be in force throughout Easter, weekends and public holidays until 1 June, from which date the service will operate daily until 30 September. The established timetable will be from midday to 7pm in the low season and from 11am until 8pm in the summer season.
Beaches councillor Diego López said during the presentation of the operation that "the investment has been increased to extend both opening hours and service coverage". He explained that the infrastructure and resources have been improved to "continue to offer effective and visible attention to users". The councillor reminded the public of the importance of respecting the instructions of the staff and of individual responsibility as a key element in guaranteeing safety in the use of the coast.
The service has 32 staff in the low season and 55 in the summer period, distributed along the more than 27 kilometres of coastline. Other measures include 19 recently renovated watchtowers, and 18 assistance points in the process of being installed, which include complete medical equipment, including semi-automatic defibrillators (DEA) that reinforce the capacity to respond to emergencies.
There will be 19 watchtowers, 18 assistance points, three jet skis, three ambulances, a 4x4 rapid intervention vehicle, a support car and, on weekends during the high season, a rescue drone
