Residents of the Las Delicias neighbourhood in Malaga have been reporting constant power cuts for weeks, some of which last for several hours.

Resident María ... Victoria Ruiz told SUR that the situation began over a month ago, although the power cuts have become particularly frequent over the last two weeks.

"The power cuts out twice a day, lasting up to four hours in some cases," her daughter Rosario Martín said.

There are elderly residents in the neighbourhood for whom electricity is vital as they are connected to a machine to breathe.

"We called the police and the firefighters came because we were worried that the transformer might catch fire," Martín said. The outages have mainly affected residents on Calle Lepanto, she added.

E-distribución, Endesa's network operator, told SUR that the area has experienced power cuts and said it is carrying out "work to redistribute the loads at the affected distribution substation".

According to Martín, technicians have already made some changes to the transformer. "But it doesn't have enough capacity and it can't cope," she said.

Endesa said it was working with the city council to secure the necessary administrative approvals for a permanent solution that would improve the quality of the electricity supply in the area. One option could involve building a new electricity distribution substation.

In the meantime, residents in this western part of Malaga remain at risk of further power cuts. Other parts of the city, including the historic centre, are also experiencing frequent outages, with shopkeepers and hospitality businesses reporting disruption to their trading, particularly during the city's Feria.
