National Police officers have arrested a 29-year-old man of Spanish nationality for his alleged involvement in the attack on the well-known Malaga architect Rafael Santa-Cruz y Carrillo de Albornoz, who died on Saturday, 15 April at the city’s Regional hospital.
After reviewing images from security cameras in the city centre, which SUR has learned were key to the investigation, members of the force’s homicide group detained the individual.
According to initial investigations, the arrested person is allegedly responsible for the blow the architect received after a dispute in a bar in the city centre where he had gone to watch a football match with a friend on the evening of Wednesday, 12 April.
The charges for a possible crime of homicide have been read to the detained man, although the final determination of the facts will depend on the forensic examination and other investigations that are still in progress, sources said.
After the alleged attack Rafael Santa-Cruz was rushed to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) but, despite the efforts of health professionals, they were unable to do anything to save his life. He died on Saturday at the Regional hospital.
The Malaga architect was an organ donor, and at the end of the hospital protocol established for such cases, his body was transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) for the autopsy, which confirmed the presence of at least two blows which could possibly have caused the death. homicidal.
Rafael Santa-Cruz's friend, a builder of a similar age, was also injured by the same individuals who attacked the deceased. Sources said that he had to be hospitalised due to the injuries he suffered, although his life is not in danger at present.
Rafael Santa-Cruz y Carrillo de Albornoz was a renowned architect with extensive professional experience. He headed the Santa-Cruz & Asociados firm, which was created in 1991 and is based on Calle Martínez in the city centre.
