Torremolinos town hall has prohibited the use of pyrotechnics during the five-days of festivities organised in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, which got under way on Thursday and continues until Monday 17 July.

The council said the ban will also reduce the possibility of fires at a time when the province is experiencing a severe heat wave.

The town’s mayor, Margarita del Cid, pointed out that those who ignore the rule will face fines in accordance with the municipal rules that regulates the unauthorised use of fireworks in public spaces.

Del Cid also explained that will be there will be no sound or music in the attractions area each day between 9pm and 10pm so that children with special needs can enjoy the activities.
