Benalmádena town hall, together with representatives of the Peña Flamenca La Repompa, have announced that the tenth Semana Flamenca de Benalmádena, a week of flamenco recitals that will staged at the Casa de Cultura in Arroyo de la Miel, will be held between Friday 11 and Friday 18 November.

This year’s edition will focus on the contributions that the flamenco peñas (private clubs) have played in the history of the art, and will serve as a showcase for the celebrated dancers, singers and guitarists - representing both the pure and the new trends within the world of flamenco.

The festival, which coincides with the 12th anniversary of the declaration of flamenco as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, will be launched on Friday 11 with a performance by local singer Laura Vital, who will offer a recital of a journey through the cante through contemporary poets.

Among the other artists participating are Raúl Montesinos, winner of the Lámpara Minera award in 2004, who will present a tribute to Silverio Franconetti (Monday 14); a solo guitar concert by Luis Medina (Tuesday); Jerez de la Frontera singer Miguel El Labi (Wednesday); while the closing gala (Friday) will present one of Malaga’s most renowned singers, La Repompilla, along with her sister, the celebrated dancer, La Repompa.

On Thursday night there will be a special screening of the Spanish language documentary about flamenco peñas, Se Prohibido el Cante.

All events cost ten euros and will start at 9pm.
