A 59-year-old woman allegedly stabbed in the chest by her son in Velez-Malaga has died in a Malaga city hospital.

The man, in his thirties, allegedly stabbed his mother and brother about 9.30am on Sunday 17 March at their apartment in Calle Domingo Heredia, before turning the knife on himself and allegedly self-harming.

The mother, covered in blood, stumbled out of the flat onto a staircase landing and called for neighbours for help, who then phoned the emergency services. The three family members - mother and two sons, aged 34 and 37 - were rushed to hospital with various stab wounds. The woman had the most serious injuries after being stabbed in the chest, affecting her lungs. She died from her injuries at about 7.30pm on Sunday night at the Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga.

The other son remains in a serious condition.

Sources said the alleged attacker suffers from a mental illness and his family had noticed a change in his behaviour in the last few days.
