Vélez-Málaga town hall has announced that it is giving away 17,000 passes for free trips on local buses. The ‘bonobús’, which will have 30 trips loaded on to it, means a total of 510,000 free journeys available to young people, pensioners, families and those living in the low emission zone. The journeys must be used up between 10 April and 30 September 2023.

A total of 5,000 free Bono Joven, or youth travel passes for people between 16 and 30 years of age can be requested at the town hall’s youth office between 5 and 8pm; 4,000 free ‘bono pensionista’ for pensioners (over 65s) and 4,000 bono familia and 4,000, both of which can be requested at the social services department from 5 to 8pm, and 4,000 Bonobús Zonas de Bajas Emisiones for drivers, which can be requested at the different Tenencias de Alcaldía and Oficinas de Atención al Ciudadano (OAC) offices, from 10am to 1pm.

Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Moreno Ferrer, explained that this measure is being implemented to encourage the use of public transport in line with the requirements of the Urban Agenda 2030 "for towns like ours, which are committed to sustainable mobility and are working on low emission zones to reduce pollution and carbon dioxide emissions".

Special Easter week service

As of 10 April a new urban bus line will start running to the Axarquía Food and Technology Park and the Trops Industrial Estate in El Trapiche. The new line will operate from Monday to Saturday with five stops: Torre del Mar bus station; Jurado Lorca Park; Velez-Malaga bus station; Trops headquarters and the Parque Tecnoalimentario.

Initially there will be four outward journeys and four return journeys "and depending on the number of users we will consider increasing the frequency", said the councillor for transport, José María Domínguez.

Information on the new free bus passes and the timetables of the new line can be found via a QR code which will be available in the next few days on the town hall website: www.velezmalaga.es.

The mayor and councillor also pointed out that a special service will operate during Easter week. From Wednesday 5 to Good Friday, 7 April, buses will run until 4am.
