The El Pinarillo recreational area in Nerja was reopened in time for the All Saints bank holiday last Monday. It has reopened after a year closed due to the pandemic to avoid crowds and reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

Located in the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama natural park and next to the Nerja cave, it is a popular beauty spot with facilities such as barbecues, a children's playground and picnic areas, and from which several walking routes lead to the summit of the peaks of the Sierra Nerja.

Nerja's environment councillor, Javier Rodríguez, said in a statement, "Given the progress in vaccination, the improvement in the situation, the low incidence, and therefore the decrease in the health alert level, the council considers that it is no longer necessary to maintain the aforementioned ban on access to this recreational area."
