A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his ex-partner and then beating her dog to death in Rincón de la Victoria, on the eastern strip of the Costa del Sol.

The woman reported the incident to the Guardia Civil, who then discovered the man had a long criminal record and had previously been accused on three separate occasions of assaulting police officers and driving without a licence.

Police eventually found the man hiding inside a piece of furniture in the living room at his mother's house. The man violently resisted arrest, according to sources, as did two other women in the property who were also arrested.

Police also found two dangerous breed dogs in the house without electronic identification chips and the corresponding documentation. The dogs were placed in the care of the municipal animal protection services. All those arrested are due to appear before the courts.
