Contract awarded for Axarquía district hospital extension

Building-firm Sando will construct two new buildings with space for meetings as well as a chapel, training rooms and a cafeteria

Following the call to tender for the extension of the Axarquía district hospital which went out in January this year, the delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, has announced that the 3.1 million euro contract has been awarded.

During a visit to the hospital in Torre del Mar on Wednesday Navarro announced that the project, for which five companies submitted bids, was awarded to Construcciones Sánchez Domínguez (Sando), with a completion period of 13 months.

Navarro stressed that it is a "very ambitious" project, which will involve the construction of two new buildings with rooms for conferences, training and trade unions, a chapel and a new cafeteria. The work means that space in the existing building will be freed up to expand and improve healthcare services.

Navarro went on to say that the aim of the project was to "provide an improvement in quality and facilities, comfort, health, safety and accessibility for both patients and staff".

The overall project also includes the refurbishment of the hopsital main entrance.
