El Corte Inglés closed part of its store in Mijas this week so it can start work on adapting the space to become an 'outlet' for different brands.
The new section will be at street level and the two floors above, and it is expected to open in the middle of the summer, probably in August.
The change is part of the restructuring plan all over Spain which has been drawn up by the group because of the effects of the pandemic on its finances.
The Costa Mijas centre in Las Lagunas opened in March 2006 and cost 130 million euros. It is 135,000 square metres in size, including shops and underground parking.
