Malaga council is moving ahead with plans to revamp the current main bus stations in the city. According to plans commissioned by the city hall, the site of the current main bus station has been earmarked for the construction of two towers (29 and 21 storeys, respectively), the first for offices and the second for a hotel.

The money generated by this project will be enough to fund a new underground bus station on the other side of María Zambrano train station.

Plans are also in place to make the second, smaller bus station in the city centre underground too.

Mayor Francisco de la Torre hopes to eventually add a tunnel which runs along the coast from the Guadalmedina river to La Malagueta to an overall project valued at 277 million euros.
