The 1st Fuengirola Scout Group, part of British Scouting Overseas, joined members of groups from around the province on Saturday for a joint celebration of the birthdays of founder Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave.
The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, attended a short ceremony in the city hall, where an exhibition of Scouting memorabilia and stamps, organised by the Club Filatélico Scouts y Guías (Scouts and Guides Stamp Club), had been on display during the previous week.
Wearing a Scout scarf and making the three-finger Scout sign, the mayor congratulated the groups for their work with young people. He presented certificates to representatives of the stamp club and the different Scout groups present, including to 1st Fuengirola Group Scout Leader, Robert Troost.
The presence of the British Scouts in Malaga was another example of the diversity of the province said De la Torre.
The celebrations then moved out to the Eduardo Ocón auditorium in the city park where around 900 Scouts from the various groups in Malaga city, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Vélez-Málaga, had gathered with their leaders.
Youngsters of different ages then read out a manifesto to commemorate the birth of the founder of the Scouting movement, Lord Baden-Powell (22 February 1857), and that of his wife Olave (22 February 1889), who was Britain's first Chief Guide.
