It's the time of year when more men in Gibraltar have moustaches and beards than usual, and if you're wondering why, then you need to know more about the 'Movember on the Rock' campaign which was launched on 1st of this month by the mayor, Christian Santos. The campaign is organised each year by Prostate Cancer Gibraltar to raise awareness of this disease as early detection can save lives as there are often no noticeable symptoms in the early stages.

At the launch, which took place in the Mayor's Parlour at City Hall, Derek Ghio, the chairman of Prostate Cancer, gave a short speech in which he thanked past and present members of the committee who voluntarily give their time to ensure that the public are aware of the importance of screening and give families support if they are affected by the illness.

The mayor said he felt privileged to officially get Movember off to a start, and he was sure there will be a great response with men growing their facial hair to support the charity and spread their message.
