People in Gibraltar are being asked to be cautious and reduce social contact after a continual rise in cases of Covid-19, and the government has issued advice for the Christmas period.
As well as urging the public to avoid large gatherings, to wear a mask where prescribed by law or when they feel uncomfortable and to maintain a prudent social distance from other people, the government strongly advises against any large informal social events, parties or receptions being held for at least the next four weeks while the vaccine booster programme is rolled out, and has cancelled several of its own planned events.
This year, the traditional Festival of Lights will once again be a broadcast and online event, as a production called The Spirit of Christmas, featuring local dancers and singers, all pre-recorded prior to airing on GBC TV and GCS Facebook on 26 November. The Christmas lights in Gibraltar will also be switched on that evening.
