Cortijo de la Argumosa, in Güéjar Sierra was transformed into a huge film set for Oscar nominated film Society Of The Snow when the Granada province village in the Sierra Nevada was selected as one of the main filming locations in Spain.
The film, directed by Spanish director J. A. Bayona, tells the story of the crash of Uruguayan air force flight 571 in the Andes in October 1972.
The shooting of the movie in Andalucía required the building a 'snow-covered' slope and bunker in which the 'crashed' plane's fuselage was placed to create some of the most iconic scenes. And, when the filming was over, the location was returned to its pristine beauty.
