Up to 160 registered pairings, 158 matches, 13 different nationalities, nine days of competition and, most importantly, 1,700 points at stake - more than enough for any top pairing to take the lead in the Race 2021 rankings. The Cervezas Victoria Marbella Master, the first such event on the World Padel Tour this year, reaches its climax this Sunday.
The courts at the Puente Romano Beach Resort and the La CaƱada fairground play host to this event - the third consecutive year in which the town has hosted a Masters event on the elite international tour.
Marbella has quickly established itself as a top venue for spectators and players alike and it has become a key event on the calendar. In fact, in 2020 it was the only one to be held prior to lockdown in Spain.
On that occasion Pablo Lima and Paquito Navarro were crowned in a hard-fought final against Juan Lebrón and Alejandro GalÔn (6-7, 6-2, 3-6). The runners-up that time are now the pair to beat at this year's event, having already won two tournaments and sitting at the top of the rankings.
Local representation is high this year. On Thursday Bea GonzĆ”lez, Carolina Navarro, Mari Carmen Villalba and AndreĆna de los Santos joined Ćlex Ruiz and Momo GonzĆ”lez in the round of 16.
