A judge sent former footballer Sergio Contreras Pardo (Koke) to prison on Thursday as part of a Guardia Civil operation against a drug ring.

Koke, 36, who came through Malaga's academy, is believed to be the one of the leaders of the criminal network in question.

More than 30 individuals across Andalucía, including in Malaga, were detained as part of the police operation.

Koke himself was arrested at his home in Estepona on Tuesday, and the police subsequently carried out a search of the property. Koke's brother has also been arrested.

The operation has led to the seizure of huge amounts of cash, as well as arms. Around a tonne of hashish has also been confiscated.
