Jubrique secures almost one million euros for storm-damaged road to Estepona

The works will cover around 150 metres of the road, one of the main routes through the municipality. Ground movement displaced the structure beneath the road, so the retaining wall must be rebuilt to restore stability and prevent further problems.

The pavement affected by the movement will also be renewed. Before the works can begin, however, the ground condition must first be assessed in detail. The funding therefore also covers a topographical survey and a geotechnical study, which will provide the basis for determining the appropriate construction solution.

The first stage of the process is already under way. The town hall has launched a tender for the technical project and, once that document is complete, the construction works will be put out to tender. The project timetable will therefore depend on the progress of both procedures.

The funding comes entirely from the Spanish government, through the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory. It forms part of measures approved to address damage caused by storms at the beginning of the year.

The measures were established under Royal Decree 5/2026 of 17 February, which made a total funding line of seven billion euros available to address the consequences of heavy rainfall in several areas. Of that amount, two billion euros were set aside for town halls to finance repairs, reconstruction and improvements to municipal infrastructure, facilities and services.

In Malaga province, the funding totals 88.4 million euros and benefits 45 municipalities. Jubrique has now secured almost one million euros to address one of the most serious problems the storms left behind in the town centre.

Mayor Alberto Benítez and deputy mayor Nila Ramírez also highlighted the work carried out by the municipal operational services during those weeks. That initial response was followed by preparing the technical and administrative documentation needed to apply for funding.

The local government particularly praised the efforts of its small workforce in completing a process involving a substantial administrative workload. With that stage completed and the funding secured, the priority is now to define the technical solution and move towards construction so the affected section of the road can be fully restored.
