The Ecofilia company has been awarded a nine-million euro contract to maintain the roads in the south of Malaga province. The contract, which is for four years with an option to extend it for one further year, is for 453 kilometres of roads which are the Andalusian government’s responsibility and it will come into force when the existing one runs out in mid-December.
Twenty-six companies had bid for the contract to look after these roads, which include the A-343, A-354, A-355, A-357, A-366, A-368, A-387, A-404, A-7052 and A-7076, among others.
The Junta de Andalucía says the new contract will also guarantee a rapid response 24 hours a day to incidents which affect the roads, such as traffic accidents, blockages or bad weather such as flooding.
During 2019 and 2020 the Junta de Andalucía awarded 33 maintenance contracts of this type at a cost of 179.6 million euros, applying to more than 10,500 kilometres of roads in the region. The other three, including the one in the south of Malaga, all expire at the end of this year.
It is estimated that this latest contract will create around 20 new direct jobs in addition to a number of others which are indirect.
