The plenary session of Mijas town hall declared Juan Carlos Maldonado as a non-attached councillor this Wednesday morning, 25 October. This means that Maldonado will not be able to assume management positions or have a salary in the future PP-led council to be headed by Ana Mata.
The item had been omitted from the plenary session for several months, when Maldonado was second deputy mayor under Josele González after he, along with the two councillors from his former party Ciudadanos, gave his support to PSOE following the municipal elections.
Before the session took this issue into consideration, the PP spokesperson, Mario Bravo, asked for the matter to be left on the table. Last Monday, the independent Por Mi Pueblo party presented a letter to Mijas town hall requesting that a June petition for Maldonado, who had been elected with the political grouping, to be declared as a non-attached councillor be scrapped.

In its letter, Por Mi Pueblo argued that as the administrative procedure for processing the petition made in June had not been concluded the case should be closed. But, in response to a request made by PP, the mayor gave the floor to the secretary of the plenary, who considered that in this case it was not applicable to leave unresolved matters on the agenda. Consequently, and given that a vote was not necessary, Juan Carlos Maldonado was declared as a non-attached councillor.
Despite expectations, there was no further debate on the subject and even Juan Carlos Maldonado remained silent.
