Junta gives green light to new Christmas light and sound show in Malaga

The culture committee has only established a couple of limits on the event, including the type of lights used and the maximum soundtrack volume allowed

The new Christmas light and sound spectacular planned for Malaga’s La Concepción botanical garden has cleared the final hurdle after the Culture committee of the Junta de Andalucía gave its approval to event. Only three conditions are specified in the decision document sent to the city council and the company staging the event, Proactiv.

The regional government has asked for the use of lights with a neutral range and a colour temperature less than or equal to 3,000 Kelvin, that the soundtrack does not exceed 30 decibels and has banned the placing of commercial advertising, either with or without lighting.

Now this step has been taken, Proactiv will be able to start staging the show, which will run from 27 November until 9 January 2022.

Specifically, it will consist of a sound and light show along a 2.2-kilometre route. It will be held from 6.30 pm to 11 pm each evening so as not to interfere with the ordinary operation of the gardens during the day.

In submissions to the Junta, the city council, argued that "the show will not produce any negative effects on the plants and animals of the historic garden” and pointed out that the venue had already been the setting scene of other events.

Regarding the capacity, with a visit duration of 70 minutes and a total route area of 5,543 square metres estimated, around 1,000 people per hour is anticipated. To control the influx of visitors, security protocols will be implemented.
