A new Scottish-themed pub opens in La Malagueta on Friday 31 March. Calanmor, an establishment halfway between bar and restaurant will open on Calle Fernando Camino in Malaga city centre, between the bullring and the Miramar Hotel. The premises were previously occupied by the Irish Time pub, which was the first establishment of its kind to open in Malaga city.
The new establishment is owned by Russian-born musician and entrepreneur Yuri Chugúyev and has an area of 230 square metres spread over two floors to create different atmospheres. Although initially it will all be used as a pub, the intention of the businessman is that the ground floor will be a bar and the first floor will have a large private room and two lounges for meetings and private gatherings.
The business will have six employees, a capacity for a hundred people and will offer its customers different types of snacks, salads, toasts and daily specials. The menu also features different dishes with a flavour from other parts of the world, such as Scottish omelette or smoked sardines with mango on a vodka and tomato confit on toast.
Chugúyev, who has lived in Malaga since 1991, says that in a second phase he will offer a menu with more luxurious products on the first floor, which will include 5J ham, black caviar and top-of-the-range wines such as Vega Sicilia, Pingus and Dom Perignon. To complete the gastronomic offering, some of the dishes prepared by the neighbouring restaurant Miguel will also be available by reservation.
The businessman explains that the choice of location is no coincidence. He believes that this area of La Malagueta is going to grow a lot in the coming months thanks to the installation of Google's cybersecurity centre and different technology companies. All this, together with the strong momentum that has already been generated by the large Miramar hotel, will allow them to reach a diverse clientele. "We want to become a benchmark venue; to become the meeting place for all the companies that set up in La Malagueta,” Chugúyev said.
