The first four-star hotel in the heart of Estepona old town is now open. Located in the iconic Plaza de las Flores, the El Pilar Andalucía Hotel Boutique, managed by the Silken chain, was opened on Tuesday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the town mayor, José María García Urbano.
The ten-million-euro establishment has 36 rooms of different styles inspired by nature. Covering nearly 3,000 square metres, the hotel has four restaurants, a spa and two function rooms. Its architecture is traditionally Andalusian, with white walls, curved Arabic roof tiles and decorative balconies and grilles. Two domed turrets on the rooftop terrace give it a palatial appearance.
García Urbano thanked the developers of the project for supporting the town, saying it represents a "turning point" in the local hotel scene and adheres to Estepona's historical aspiration to create hotels with such features in the town centre.
The mayor also alluded to the council's Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol project, which has been responsible for revitalising the town centre.
In addition to the more than 130 remodelled streets, it has encouraged important cooperation that has so far led to the development of 14 hotel projects, which are currently in differing phases of completion.
