Granada's provincial authority, the Diputación de Granada, is drafting the third section of the coastal path which will eventually connect all 82.3 kilometres of the Costa Tropical. This third phase will start at Playa de las Azucenas and cross Torrenueva Costa until it reaches the neighbouring Carchuna-Calahonda.
From the Diputación, spokesperson María Vera explained that the final details of project are being ironed out and once it is approved, the contract will go out to tender. "We are very advanced in the drafting of the project and as soon as it is ready, we will start with the tender to carry out the work," she said.
Improvements in Torrenueva Costa
To integrate the landscape with the future coastal path, in Torrenueva Costa seven new rest areas have already been established along the route three in Playa de las Pelás, three in Playa de El Cañón and one more in Playa Urbana de Torrenueva Costa, next to the jetty. All these areas are equipped with pinewood and canvas pergolas to offer shade and rest, as well as wooden benches.
Street lighting has been installed both on the pergolas and on the paths of the El Cañón and Las Pelás beaches, with "Trend Top 110" luminaires and 30 "CAST 500" beacons so that it can be enjoyed at any time of day or night.
The Diputación is hoping to start work as soon as possible on the second section of the footpath between Salobreña and Motril.
