Government scientists announced on Thursday afternoon that 5.2 per cent of people in Spain have had coronavirus, after analysing over 60,000 survey samples.

The figure was in line with preliminary results last month, based on fewer tests, and confirms that the country is a long way off the so-called herd immunity.

Leading scientist Marina Pollán said a third of people who had had Covid-19 had not shown symptoms and of those, only 2.8 percent now probably had antibodies.
