Spanish-based pilots at Ryanair have said they will strike on some dates in September, along with cabin crews, in protest at the closure of the airline's bases in the Canaries and Girona.

The government has ordered minimum service levels during strike action. Dates in September are: 19, 20, 22, 27 and 29 for pilot action; and 1, 2, 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 for cabin crew action. Madrid says that 35 per cent of international flights under five hours must be operated.

Some Ryanair flights out of Spain are operated by Spanish crews, others by international crews. During UK pilot action last week, Ryanair eventually managed to cover its full schedule by using other staff and disruption was minimal.
