A court has overturned a regional government restriction on larger shops and shopping centres in Malaga city opening on Sunday and public holidays. Malaga is officially classified as an area with a high concentration of tourism, meaning shops can open.
But the Junta banned stores over 300 metres and parts of national chains opening on Sundays and public holidays in areas outside the centre of the city.
Larger shops have been complaining, and now the court agrees, saying that the Junta cannot impose those restrictions and that all stores should be free to set their own timetables.
