Andalucía aims to place itself at the centre of the global drive to defend the sustainability of the oceans with the first Encuentro de los Mares congress to be held in Malaga and Cadiz next week.
The three-day event unites the worlds of fishing, science and gastronomy to bring the debate on the responsible exploitation of the seas and oceans to the forefront.
Speakers, in Malaga on Monday and Cadiz on Wednesday, include representatives from the fishing industry, scientific researchers and chefs, who will examine how the sectors can work together, and with the rest of the community, to promote sustainability.
For this first edition of the congress the Sartún prize will be awarded to Global Fishing Watch, the non-profit organisation that uses satellite technology to track illegal fishing and protect the environment. Visit www.encuentrodelosmares.com
