From now on, people wanting to rent a tourist apartment or house in Malaga city will be able to check online first to see if the accommodation is officially registered with the Andalusian regional government and therefore complies with the law.

Malaga council's tourism department has said that by publishing the list it aims to improve the offer for visitors and provide good-quality competition for traditional hotels. At the moment there are 2,600 homes registered with space for 13,000 tourists to stay, says the council. The list is currently in PDF format on the Spanish version of the malagaturismo.com website and is due to be extended to the English version.

At the same time, the council has approved the setting up of a telephone hotline so members of the public can report any irregularities in tourist self-catering accommodation or make recommendations. The telephone number is 010.
