One of the tennis club's most famous visitors was Princess Diana, although the Hoads had not been pre-informed about the visit. Lew and Jenny had arrived at the club one day to be told that the world's most famous royal had tried to check in. Diana had arrived with two friends, but the manager advised them that the security would not be sufficient and recommended they go to the Hotel Byblos. By the time she reached the hotel word had spread and the area was swamped with paparazzi.
Jenny wrote to the princess saying how sorry she was to have missed her: Diana's private secretary informed Jenny that she was most grateful for the efficiency of her staff.
