The Marenostrum cycle of summer concerts in Fuengirola starts on Friday 4 June with a concert by Lebanese electric-violinist Ara Malikian. The 52-year-old musician will make his second appearance on the coveted stage in the grounds of Sohail Castle, though this time he will be joined by Cuban pianist Iván 'Melon' Lewis, a Latin Grammy nominee who is recognised as one of the most talented and influential pianists of his generation.

Malikian, who has released more than 25 albums, is currently promoting the Petit Garage tour, which has already taken him to Dubai and Mexico. He will stop off to perform in Fuengirola before continuing with more than 30 dates in Spain.

Ara Malikian was born in Lebanon in 1968 to a family of Armenian origin. His gift for playing the violin was discovered at an early age and he has since developed into a composer and unique musician. His talent was noticed and at the age of fourteen, when he won a scholarship to study at the Graduate School of Music in Hanover, Germany. After this, he moved to London to train at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The musician continues to expand his own blend of music, fusing it with the music of different cultures such as Jewish klezmer, Gypsy flamenco, Argentinean tango and Cuban jazz.

Tickets for the show, which begins at 10pm, cost 45 euros and are available online, from www.marenostrumfuengirola.com.
