Germany is topping the table for the number of flight searches for travellers to the Costa del Sol this summer according to the latest research data.

The German market, usually the second most important for the Costa, is the most active at the moment and has overtaken the United Kingdom, which is normally the leader.

This is confirmed in by a report by the Turismo Costa del Sol tourism authority which says that there have been more than 70,000 flight searches from Germany to Malaga in the last two weeks - representing 22.4 per cent of global searches.

In second place is the number of searches from the UK, followed by Belgium, France and Denmark.

Searches for the Costa del Sol have increased in all 15 of the most important countries for tourism in southern Spain, with an increase of 113.2 per cent from 1 March to 14 March, over searches carried out the previous month according the Junta de Andalucía data.

Turismo Costa del Sol reveals that Frankfurt is the city where there is most interest in the Costa del Sol, with 15,000 searches in the last two weeks, followed by Berlin, with slightly more than 12,000 in that period.

For the Costa de Sol, German tourism is the second most important international market. Before the pandemic 787,962 travellers arrived at Malaga airport, which after the Covid crisis was reduced by 76 per cent in 2020.

A report by ReiseAnalyse said that the desire to travel remains strong among Germans despite Covid.

Spain’s national tourism board, Turespaña, has already forecast a recovery of German tourists between May and June, and in July and August it expects to reach 50 per cent of the 2019 figures.
