The huge Sierra Bermeja fire, which devastated up to 10,000 hectares of land and claimed the life of a firefighter, has not only united the entire Malaga province; but also the world of sport.

Malaga Football Club and the city’s Unicaja basketball team have united to show their support for the cause.

The clubs have designed a solidarity shirt that the players of both teams will wear before their next league matches this week, with the slogan #RecuperemosSierraBermeja. It will be a symbolic act that will be accompanied by a much more powerful campaign.

As explained by both clubs, as soon as the fire has been fully extinguished and the relevant authorities allow it, the clubs will launch a volunteer project through which all interested parties can help with cleaning and reforestation tasks in the Sierra Bermeja.

Full details are still being worked out and SUR in English will bring you the information as soon as it is finalised.
