Champions Week at the ECC gets under way

Six representative sides are battling it out at Cártama Oval to win the tournament

Monday 4 October saw the first day of Championship Week action at the European Cricket Championship 2021 at Cártama Oval in Malaga, with five exciting matches.

Belgium, the winners of Group A, beat Italy by 64 runs and continued this winning streak into their second match, beating Austria, Group B runners-up, by 34 runs.

The Netherlands XI, winners of Group B, started their campaign for the prize with impressive wins over Spain by 90 runs and Italy by 37 runs.

The England XI side ended the day with the expected victory over Spain, racking up an unbeaten 178, limiting the hosts Spain to 85 in response.

As of Monday 4 October, the Netherlands XI and Belgium are first and second respectively in the European Cricket Championship 2021 points table, with five points apiece.

The England XI are occupy third place with three points and Austria, Italy and Spain bring up the rear of the table with no points.

Five more matches are scheduled for Tuesday 5 October.
