England XI have been unable to carry their winning streak into Group C’s third day at the European Cricket Championships 2021 in Cártama, having been beaten by Italy by six wickets in a shocking disappointment for the side.

This win over England XI brings an end to Italy’s dismal performance in the campaign so far, having previously lost every match in the tournament.

Having easily beaten Italy by 33 runs and Germany by 46 on Tuesday, it remains to be seen whether England XI are able to regain their momentum when they face the Czech Republic later today, Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Czech Republic beat Finland by eight wickets, but were unable to overcome Germany who won by 42 runs. Finland then rallied to defeat Italy by five runs in a very closely contested match.

As of 28 September, England XI sit atop the points table with eight, two more than the Czech Republic. Germany is third, with a fifty per cent record so far, tailed by Finland and Italy.

Group C continue their matches until the weekend, when the eliminator, qualifiers and final will determine which two sides face Belgium and Spain from Group A and Group B's Netherlands and Austria in the Championship Week in early October.
