Azahara Muñoz out of medal contention after poor second round

Azahara Muñoz from San Pedro is out of medal contention in the golf at the Olympic Games after shooting five over par in her second round. Currently at +3, the Spaniard is 16 shots off the lead, which is held by world number one Nelly Korda of the United States. Thus ends his Olympic dream, in which it was his first participation, which he had attended without pressure and with the intention of enjoying the experience.

After a respectable 18 holes on Wednesday, Muñoz missed nearly a dozen birdie opportunities on Thursday and carded five bogeys. The culprit was her putting, which needs to be on top form to deal with the undulating, fast greens of the Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama.

Spain's other contender, Carlota Ciganda, has not fared much better and is currently T30 on -1. The main question now is whether the Olympic golfers will be able to complete their four rounds, as a typhoon is due to strike on Saturday.
