The number of Malaga CF players in coronavirus quarantine is growing. In just a couple of days the number of footballers in home isolation has doubled, from three to six.

The players withdrawn from training for this reason are Benkhemassa, Hicham, Iván Calero, Paulino, Gonzalo and Andrés Caro.

It has, however, not been confirmed if they have tested positive for Covid-19 - so far. They may just be in preventative isolation after being in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.

Three of the group began isolating last Thursday, shortly after the players returned to the La Roselada stadium for pre-season preparations.

Those affected are believed not to be suffering any symptoms, and they are carrying out a series of adapted training sessions in their homes.

This setback presents a problem for the coaching staff at the club, which has already had to adapt the preseason training due to the loss of Chavarría and Ramón, who are recovering from injuries. Right now, only 22 of the 30 players listed to begin preparations for the new season are available for training seasons at the La Roselada club.

For the affected players it will mean a delay in their preparations for the season and they could even miss the first friendly matches – with the first scheduled for 21 July.

The club has reminded all players to take care to protect themselves from the virus, both within training sessions and in their personal routines.
