After going 12 games without defeat, Cáceres brought Malaga's impressive run crashing to an end with a 2-0 win in Rincón de la Victoria on Saturday.

The hosts were up against it even before the game began with several academy players earning a call up after four first-teams regulars were ruled out either through suspension (Olmedo and Adriana), illness (Claudia) or injury (Carol).

Malaga started well, creating two good chances in the opening exchanges, but when Cáceres belatedly found their rhythm, the Blue and Whites' inexperience started to show.

An avoidable foul in the 38th minute allowed veteran Ali Muñoz to put her side ahead with a perfectly executed free-kick.

With María Ruiz moved into the forward line in the second half, Malaga created more danger in the second half. However, with chances passed up and refereeing decisions increasingly going against the hosts, the tension on the field began to grow. That frustration was compounded in the 71st minute when Ali Muñoz completed her brace with a volley inside the area.

The result sees Malaga miss out on the chance to climb up to fourth in the table.
