  • The club's two main supporters' groups threatened to withdraw their support after "undignified" cup exit

The Frente Bokerón and Malaka Hinchas, Malaga's two main supporters' groups, have both threatened to withdraw their support for the team and manager Víctor Sánchez del Amo after Tuesday's humiliating defeat to Escobedo, a side two divisions below the club.

The Frente Bokerón tweeted that the "pact" made at the start of the season - of unconditional support for the team, with the understanding that the economic and institutional situation at the club undermined the players - would be finished if the team did not show spirit in Saturday's league game against Lugo.

Malaka Hinchas, for their part, said: "The cup doesn't matter - what really matters is dignity," suggesting the players showed none on the pitch on Tuesday.

Víctor's comments after the game will have done little to ease tensions. The coach stated: "You've got to remember that the Copa has caused us lots of problems. The league is where we're fighting for survival. We did our best in the circumstances, but for us, the Copa is over and we've got to focus on the league."
