Luck was not on Marbella's side as they fell to their first defeat of the season away to Badajoz on Sunday.
The visitors managed to contain their hosts for the majority of the first half, though they did need to call on the swift reactions of their keeper Wilfred to keep César Morgado's close-range effort at bay in the 13th minute.
At the other end, Morgado was involved again, clearing Óscar's effort off the goal line to keep the scores level going into the break.
Two minutes into the second half, however, and the deadlock was broken. Álex Corredura seized on a loose pass in midfield by Redru before trying his luck from distance. A huge deflection off Saúl carried the ball into the back of the net when otherwise it would have been quite a straightforward save for the Marbella keeper.
This goal had a demoralising effect on the visitors who were then outplayed by their direct league rivals.
Badajoz could have doubled their lead in the 84th minute but Gorka Santamaría's effort came back out off the post.
The best response Marbella could muster came from Añón in stoppage time but the midfielder fired over the crossbar.
Marbella remain in the play-off positions, but victory for Badajoz moves the Extremadura side above them on goal difference.
