Marbella put in an impressive performance on Sunday to beat Recreativo Huelva 2-1 and leapfrog their rivals into fourth place.

Coach David García Cubillo stuck with a 4-4-2 formation, with Paulo Vítor replacing Yaimil on the left wing and Samu Delgado filling in for the suspended Mustafá on the opposite flank.

Marbella take early lead

The hosts played as they normally do: with defensive solidity, clinical attacking play, and an impressive work rate from all involved. Their start was electric, and their aggressive approach soon bore fruit. Paulo Vítor broke free down the left, delivering a perfect ball to Manuel from the byline, and the latters shot could only be parried by the keeper straight at Óscar, who bundled the ball over the line for his fourth of the season.

This set the tone for a first half in which the visitors barely turned up. Nevertheless, despite the home sides dominance, chances were at a premium, and Marbella did not manage to extend their lead before the break.

Recreativo started the second half far better, with Carlos Martínez stinging Marbella shot-stopper Wilfreds palms in the opening stages. Eventually Marbella would get their second, however, with the skipper Añón hitting a free kick which took a slight deflection before rippling the net.

Recreativo's response not enough

A two-goal lead would prove to be enough for the hosts, though Alfonso gave the local fans a fright when he pulled one back with a wonderful left-footed shot in injury time.

Marbellas defence had been rock-solid all game, and they were unlucky not to come away with a clean sheet, but there was little Wilfred could do to prevent this goal, which would turn out to be something of a footnote anyway.

The result leaves Marbella in the play-off positions, and means they remain the only unbeaten team in group four of the Segunda B this season. All in all, it was a very impressive result and performance at a packed Antonio Lorenzo where the crowd never stopped singing.
