Malaga's players received a welcome boost of confidence on Wednesday as they picked up their first victory of pre-season, seeing off Melilla in Benahavís.
Moroccan winger Hicham scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute after being played clean through on goal by a superb assist from new signing Shinji Okazaki.
Coach Víctor Sánchez del Amo gave minutes to all of his players, including goalkeeper Munir who made his first appearance since returning from African Cup of Nations duty.
Malaga, wearing their pink third kit for the first time, dominated the game from start to finish and, after taking an early lead, it seemed that the floodgates would open. However, the immense heat, paired with constant hydration stoppages, interrupted the side's flow.
Alfred N'Diaye also made his return from international duty but was just a spectator as his future remains up in the air.
Malaga will play their fifth and final pre-season friendly tomorrow, Saturday, in the Carranza trophy away to Cadiz.
